Pricing Factors

What Affects the Final Cost?

Two doors, two very different prices — here's why, explained honestly.

Door Size

A 16-foot double door uses roughly twice the material — and more labor — than a single 8-foot door. Oversized openings cost more.

Material & Insulation

Steel is the most affordable. Wood and wood-composite cost more. Insulated doors (foam core) add $200–$600 but pay back in energy savings for heated garages.

Style & Design

Plain flush panels cost less than carriage-house style. Add decorative windows, hardware, or custom colors and the price climbs accordingly.

Spring Type

Torsion springs (mounted above the door) are typically more than extension springs (on the sides), but they last longer and are safer — worth the difference.

Parts Brand & Quality

Budget parts cost less upfront but often mean repeat service calls. We stock quality parts that last — and we'll tell you the trade-off either way.

Timing of Service

Scheduled daytime jobs are least expensive. Same-day rush and true emergencies (overnight, weekends) carry an added service fee — always disclosed before we come out.

Why It's Different Here

No Franchise Markup.
No Upsell Games.

Most garage door companies are franchises — they pay royalties to a parent company, and you pay for that through inflated prices and pressure to buy the most expensive option. Nate's is independently owned.

When Nate shows up, the person doing the work is the same person who gives you the quote. No sales team. No commission structure pushing you toward an $800 spring job that only needs $200 in parts.

Free written estimate before any work begins
Parts cost shown separately — you see what you're paying for
Repair vs. replace advice you can trust — Nate doesn't profit from replacement
Invoice matches the quote — guaranteed

"Nate gave me the quote over the phone, showed up when he said he would, and the final bill was exactly what he quoted. Refreshing."

— Kevin R., Overland Park

"Other company quoted me $650 for a spring. Nate fixed it for $185. I'll never call anyone else."

— Melissa T., Lee's Summit

Common Questions

Pricing FAQ

No. Estimates are always free, no strings attached. Nate will diagnose the issue, explain what's wrong in plain English, and give you a written price before touching anything. You decide whether to move forward.
Parts quality, brand of opener or spring, door size, and labor complexity all play a role. Some companies pad prices heavily or use low-quality parts. We show you the parts cost and labor cost separately so you know exactly where your money goes.
For larger jobs (full door replacement, multiple repairs), we can work with you on payment. Give Nate a call and we'll figure something out. We'd rather find a way to get your door working than have you put it off because of budget.
After-hours and weekend calls may include an additional $75–$150 service fee. We'll always tell you this before we come out — never a surprise on the invoice. If it's urgent, call 816.289.9600 and we'll get you squared away.
General rule: if the repair costs more than 50% of a new door's price, or if the door is 15+ years old and has multiple issues, replacement often makes more financial sense. Nate will give you an honest assessment — he has no incentive to push you either way.
Cash, check, and all major credit and debit cards. Payment is collected on completion of the job — you don't pay until the work is done and you're satisfied.
